A Philosophical outlook on names

In my many pacings (when i think i pace) i often come to questions like “Why do we call a rose a ‘rose’? what defines the rose as being a rose?” and i almost always come back to the same answer, which has gotten quite annoying, it’s name defines it as what it is. We say blue and think of a specific color, but if i called what we call red blue the only change is the name, this would confuse most people in speach which is why we always go by the old standbys rather than change the name. And when we name something we usually take old words and attach them to the object like a ball and chain (a refference to the shackle depicted in most stereotypical representations of an inmate in a prison) and the rest of society uses that. But getting back to what i said earlier, it’s basicaly William Shakespeare’s “A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” we all know it but it’s become such a recurring thing in the world. If Hitler had called his group the Blargs the Nazi would have no association with facism. Whenever we hear Nazi we think of WWII Germany, same with the swastika which, before its meaning was changed forever, had meant peace in ancient Egyption Hieroglyphs. I’m going to end this post for now as it has started to drift a little as all philosophies do, which is kind of why i love it, it can all tie together neatly and yet have individual meanings and topics. I hope you didn’t find this post redundant, because that would suck. Good luck with future philosophical endeavors, and allways follow you ethics
